Zahid Khan has a track record spanning world class institutions, government and academia, in a career that stretches over two decades and across three continents.
Khan was educated in the US, taking a BA in economics in 1974 at Brandeis University, before moving to Washington University in St. Louis for his MA and then Columbia University in New York where he completed his Ph.D. in 1985.
Having completed his studies, Khan spent some years teaching in higher education and working as a Research Analyst at the World Bank in Washington, DC, before joining LIMRA, a US life insurance industry trade association as an economist and researcher. In 1990, he joined AIG, the US-based financial conglomerate, as manager in the economic and information analysis group of its Corporate R&D Department.
In 1995, Khan moved to Saudi Arabia with the US / Saudi Joint Economic Commission (JECOR), a part of the U.S. Treasury Department, working as a Senior Economist for the Ministry of Finance in Riyadh. In 2000, he switched to the private sector in Saudi, joining Riyad Bank as Chief Economist and Vice President where he set up the department for the bank.
Khan’s recognition as an expert in the region is evidenced by the fact that he is widely published and quoted in the regional media.
Throughout his career, Khan has also acted as a consultant, advising clients as diverse as the micro-finance pioneer Grameen Bank and the Presidency University, both in Dhaka Bangladesh, as well as AIG after leaving the group.
Khan brings to al khaliji an obvious wealth of experience – both sectoral and regional – that will be pivotal in underpinning our ambitious growth plans.
